剧集的故事主要发生在某个不定的历史年代，地点是虚构的邻近京城的下河县里的“清明酒家”。故事围绕精明能干的孙掌柜，自命不凡的张郎，油滑机灵的刘三儿和孙掌柜嫁不出来的女儿如花展开，同时带入他们身边的形形色色的人物，如常常来“清明酒家”走动的下河县师爷苏东，时不时来传传小道消息的“退休干部”周员外……。Vali and Mina are 2 sisters who oppose everything. One is a singer dreamer and emotional. The other is a therapist, distant and rational. Their father ends up finding the perfect opportunity to bring them together and try to reconcile them。
